About Dr. Asatar Bair
Dr. Asatar Bair is the founder of Meditation 2.0. He speaks and writes about meditation, and has written over 150 blog posts about heart-centered spiritual development. Asatar's spiritual lineage is in Sufism. He was born into the spiritual community created by the noted Sufi teacher Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan. Asatar has practiced meditation since he was a small child, receiving instruction from Pir Vilayat as well as from Asatar's own family, which includes many spiritual teachers. He studied most intensively with his father Puran Bair, and stepmother, Susanna Bair, co-founders of the Institute for Applied Meditation on the Heart, where Asatar served for many years before creating Meditation 2.0.
Asatar holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He taught college courses in economic theory and statistics at the City College of San Francisco. He has received 6 awards for excellence in teaching, including Teacher of the Year.
An avid martial artist and fitness aficionado, Asatar has been certified as an instructor of T’ai Chi Ch’uan by the Northwest T’ai Chi Ch’uan Association; he has also studied Judo, Jiu jitsu, Aikido, and boxing. He enjoys running barefoot and working out with bodyweight exercises and kettlebells.
He and his wife have one daughter and one son.
